You rarely find someone who is willing to lay down his life for his friend, and yet here in Denver this past week, this is exactly what happened. There was a high school senior who acted out of ultimate love for his fellow school mates and protected them from being killed, while he himself was. He was the epitome of John 15:13 which states: Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
His school mates have heaped praise upon what he did and they have garnished 40,000 signatures on a petition to have him receive the Arthur Ashe Hero Award along with the other two students who took down the school shooter. These students have the right attitude about honoring their fellow fallen student who saved their lives. They will never forget what he did. Indeed he is now considered such a hero that 2,000 people attended his funeral.
What Kendrick did was pay the ultimate price for loving others. Christ paid the ultimate price for you on the cross, what have you done in return to say ‘thank you to Him?’ We are all commanded to love one another, when was the last time you showed love to one of your friends?
